It's time for a Canadian car
What does this mean?
It means the time has arrived for Canada to join all other leading industrial powers and create its own auto industry. One that will partner with American companies and others, but not be controlled by foreign head offices.
This does not mean replacing foreign companies; they have created many beneficial jobs here. It is now, however, time for Canada to create its own jobs. We must lay out the structure for a parallel Canadian presence. It is a logical progression for any country to move from assembler to creator. That's progress.
The first step: The CARTA initiative.
The CARTA Initiative is a call to begin a nation-wide, government-funded research and development program to evaluate the risks and benefits of Canada's entering the automotive sector. CARTA has outlined the basic direction of further research and is currently working to build the political will to take this national industrial initiative to the next step.
Canada has the talent, creativity and the industrial capacity to develop a domestically owned and operated auto industry. Let's begin.
